TV Has Sound but No Picture? What It Could Mean

A faint image visible under a torch can suggest a backlight issue. No response or repeated clicking may relate to power delivery, while lines or patches can indicate panel damage.

Test another source and HDMI cable, open the TV menu and power cycle it once. Do not open the TV casing because internal components can retain dangerous voltage.
How a TV is diagnosed
The torch test comes first — a faint image behind a dark screen identifies a backlight fault immediately. Input sources and cables are swapped to rule out everything outside the TV, then the menu is checked, since a menu that displays while content does not isolates the fault to a board. Inside, the power and driver boards are tested with the casing safely opened in the workshop.
Repair versus replacement
Backlight kits, power boards and driver boards are repairable at a sensible cost, and a TV that is otherwise good is usually worth saving. A cracked panel is the exception — replacement panels often cost more than a new television. Age matters too: a diagnosis on a newer TV is nearly always worth it, on a ten-year-old set it is a fair question to ask first.
When to arrange a diagnosis
If the problem continues after safe basic checks, a proper diagnosis is the best next step. It helps separate a replaceable part from a deeper board, power or software issue before any repair is approved.
